On May 28tn, 2009, in the hall named Ernesto Álvarez Córdoba of the Museum of Art –MARTE-, Alternativa Association presented its new collection of products and projects executed by the Salvadoran artisan sector. A group of selected invitees attended it, to see the new products developed in the different communities of El Salvador: Ilobasco, Nahuizalco, El Congo and San Salvador, among others, using raw materials such as clay, wood and fibers. These products have been developed together with artisans of these communities and a pool of national and international designers who have been working for the Alternativa Association. The new proposals are available in the store of Alternativa and you have the opportunity to see them in our Web site, in “The New Products” section. Additionally to this, some of the results and new proposal developed by the Project Division of Alternativa, together with institutions such as MOJE, SACDEL, CONAMYPE and FOMILENIO were presented in the event
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In April 20th, 2009, Alternativa Association participated in the inauguration of the Artisan Festival of Wal-Mart, in Hiper Paiz Las Cascadas. This is the third time that this festival is held simultaneously in Guatemala, Honduras and Costa Rica, in the different Hiper Paiz supermarkets of each country, displaying and selling Salvadoran crafts as regular products of those supermarket chains. A total of 37 artisans participated in this year’s festivals, under the leadership of Alternativa Association. Alternativa took the leading role when organizing the artisans in order to deal with all the regulations and market conditions of the Regional Wal-Mart supermarket. Wal-Mart placed an order of more than $98,000.00 USD for the Salvadoran artisans in 2009.

On May 8th, 2009, Alternativa Association made a presentation to the group of taxi drivers in San Salvador, who work directly with the different hotels of the country, with the purpose of showing them the innovative proposal of crafts. This group of persons represents an important link between the tourists and the store. The strategy was focused in teaching the taxi drivers about the Association and the products, so they can bring more tourists and customers who look for a place to buy crafts to the store. |
